Calls upon to complete works related to roads, sanitation, and basic amenities before Diwali, live up to public aspirations, and work dedicatedly to build world-class cities
Jaipur, October 5. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma interacted with the newly elected Heads and Deputy Heads of urban bodies at the Chief Minister's residence regarding the 100-day roadmap for city development and management. CM directed that all works related to city cleaning, roads, electricity, streetlights, sewerage, drains, painting, and beautification be completed within a month before Diwali, in order to realize the vision of world-class cities in the state.
The Chief Minister stated that planned development of cities must be ensured to provide better urban amenities to the general public. He urged them to pay special attention to local issues such as sanitation, waste collection and disposal, roads, waterlogging, streetlights, beautification, park maintenance, the menace of stray animals, encroachment, and sewerage systems. He ordered quick local solutions for these problems to transform the face of Rajasthan's cities within 100 days.
Representation in Urban Bodies is a Mission of
Public Service, Not Just a Post
He directed the heads of the local bodies to regularly tour their respective
areas to inspect arrangements, coordinate with officials to check the quality
of development works, and ensure their time-bound execution. The Chief Minister
explicitly stated that development should not be limited to merely making plans
but its benefits must reach the common citizens. Representation in urban bodies
is not just a post, but a mission of public service. Representatives must work
with sensitivity towards the problems of the people.
The Chief Minister added that the elected heads of local bodies must live up to public aspirations. This is only possible when they work with absolute dedication and integrity toward well-planned urban development. The public has formed urban governments for development, so people must feel the change. Local body leaders must lay such a foundation of plans and works in their respective areas that new dimensions of urban development are established.
Practice Efficient Financial Management, Increase
Local Body Income
The Chief Minister stated that urban bodies not only deliver basic amenities to
the public but also play a crucial role in deciding the direction and condition
of cities. Giving special instructions on efficient financial management, he said
that urban bodies must strengthen their economic condition and increase their
income. Furthermore, local body heads must work with transparency,
accountability, and honesty, adopting a policy of zero tolerance towards
corruption.
The Chief Minister called upon the councillors to rise above ward boundaries and work with a collective mindset for the development of the entire city. He said that the planning for roads, sewerage, and other amenities should not be ward-specific but should keep the requirements of the whole city in mind. He also emphasized the need for a phased development plan for local bodies.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Has Taken Far-Reaching
Steps to Make Cities Modern and Convenient
The Chief Minister highlighted that under the capable leadership of Prime
Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government has taken far-reaching steps to
make cities modern and convenient through initiatives like the Swachh Bharat Mission,
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban, AMRUT Yojana, and the Smart Cities Mission.
Through these efforts, an ideal urban development model is being created by
integrating technology and citizen convenience with urban growth.
He mentioned that the State Government is providing economic support to needy families in urban areas by offering 125 days of employment as unskilled labourers. Additionally, FSTPs (Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants) are being set up in 188 urban bodies along with free de-sludging services. The Viksit Ward Abhiyan has been launched for the planned development of cities. Our objective is to make the state's cities world-class by providing better facilities and services, and the State Government will fully support urban bodies in this endeavour.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of State for Urban Development and Self-Government (Independent Charge) Jhabar Singh Kharra, mayors of municipal corporations, Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, and officials from concerned departments. Deputy mayors, chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, presidents, and vice-presidents of municipal bodies joined the meeting via VC.
