JAIPUR, October 28. For any family, few crucibles are as agonizing as the moment a doctor prescribes an organ transplant to keep the fading embers of a loved one alive. It is a shattering threshold where hope collides with a devastating reality—that the astronomical cost of survival stands as an insurmountable wall, far beyond their reach. This is a heartbreaking war waged on two merciless fronts: a desperate struggle against time to save a life, and a quiet, suffocating battle against the hollow depth of empty pockets.

Yet, it is precisely in these twilight hours of despair that a government’s health security scheme steps forward—not merely as an administrative policy, but as a radiant beacon of salvation. In the gentle light of this intervention, the abstract ideals of public welfare, good governance, and profound empathy cease to be words on paper; they transform into a living, breathing promise that a life will not be lost simply for the want of a fortune.

In Rajasthan, the Mukhyamantri Ayushman Arogya (MAA) Yojana, launched through the vision and initiative of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, has emerged as a true blessing for underprivileged patients facing the daunting crisis of organ failure. The initiative has not only saved the lives of impoverished and helpless citizens but has also triggered an unprecedented momentum in the state’s humanitarian drive for organ donation and transplantation.
The latest data for these complex and expensive medical procedures reveals a massive surge in healthcare accessibility. Under the Double Engine Government's 34-month tenure, nearly 2,000 transplants have been successfully executed completely free of cost. Additionally, 671 individuals have received cochlear implants.

A Beacon of Hope: 1,310 Patients Receive Kidney Transplants

Patients battling severe kidney diseases, along with their families, endure prolonged emotional and financial trauma. Under the ‘MAA’ scheme, kidney transplants are now entirely cashless. During the current government’s tenure, a staggering 1,310 patients availed themselves of cashless kidney transplants. In stark contrast, the entire tenure of the previous government recorded only 748 such surgeries. To fund these life-saving procedures, the current administration has spent ₹58 crore.

Transforming Care: Bone Marrow Transplants Leap from 88 to 563

The state has also witnessed an extraordinary scaling-up of complex treatments like Bone Marrow Transplants (BMT). While the previous government’s iteration of the health scheme managed to benefit only 88 patients, the current administration has extended this critical lifeline to 563 beneficiaries. Consequently, the financial expenditure on BMT has skyrocketed from ₹5.74 crore under the previous regime to ₹35 crore today.

Similarly, liver transplants saw a significant rise, with 112 patients receiving life-saving assistance under the current government compared to 60 under the previous one. Heart transplants were successfully performed on 9 patients. Furthermore, within just 34 months, 671 beneficiaries received cochlear implants—a figure that outshines the 366 implants performed across the entire 5-year term of the previous government.

Beyond Borders: Inter-State Portability Unleashed

In a pioneering move initiated by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, the ‘MAA’ scheme introduced Inter-State Portability for the very first time. This groundbreaking feature ensures that Rajasthan’s citizens can access top-tier organ transplant facilities in other states as well. The government has provided financial aid worth approximately ₹6 crore across 106 cases of out-of-state organ transplants. This includes:
• 79 Kidney Transplants
• 12 Liver Transplants
• 8 Bone Marrow Transplants
• 4 Lung Transplants
• 3 Heart Transplants

The Grand Vision: 50 Lakh People Treated Cashless, ₹10,678 Crore Invested

Driven by a vision of Universal Health Coverage, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma had directed officials to bring as many citizens as possible under this protective health umbrella. Aligning with this directive, the Medical and Health Department continuously expanded the horizons of the scheme. The number of treatment packages was increased from 1,800 under the previous government to nearly 2,200 packages today.

This comprehensive expansion ensures maximum coverage for everyone—from newborns to the elderly—and spans everyday illnesses to highly advanced robotic surgeries. As a direct result of these efforts, approximately 50 lakh people have received free medical treatment over the last 34 months, with the state government absorbing an expenditure of ₹10,678 crore.

"The state government is firmly committed to ensuring that financial helplessness never stands in the way of a needy patient’s treatment. When a family is confronted with the question of saving their loved one's life, this public health security scheme serves as their anchor of hope and trust. This very spirit of sensitivity and public welfare forms the bedrock of our efforts to make healthcare highly accessible in Rajasthan."— Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma
