JAIPUR, OCTOBER 27. Under the charismatic and able leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, the double-engine government is working with absolute commitment to road development. The state's strategy focuses on ensuring smooth transit for the public and boosting economic activities through enhanced rural and urban connectivity. Striking a remarkable balance between high quality, strict timelines, and network expansion, the Public Works Department (PWD) has achieved a significant milestone by developing 51,790 kilometres of roads with an investment exceeding ₹37,527 crore during the current government's tenure.

Realising the Prime Minister's Vision
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma emphasized that in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat, robust road connectivity is essential for the nation and the state. Rapidly progressing in this direction, the state government has spent over ₹9,704 crore on constructing 18,917 km of new roads. Furthermore, ₹4,210 crore has been utilized for 603 km of National Highway developments, and ₹11,302 crore has been deployed for 8,318 km of State Highways and Major District Roads.

Marking massive progress across September and October 2026, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stones for 1,763 PWD projects valued at ₹3,040 crore across all 41 districts. Concurrently, 261 completed works worth ₹371 crore were inaugurated and dedicated to the public. These development works are set to strengthen infrastructure and provide better facilities to citizens.

Bringing Remote Villages into the Mainstream
The state government is placing a special focus on integrating rural areas into the mainstream of development. To expand basic amenities, more than ₹12,311 crore has been spent on rural road infrastructure covering 23,952 km. Under this initiative, 1,760 villages and 21 habitations have been linked with asphalt roads, facilitating smooth travel and providing a major boost to farming, trade, and local economic activities.

To rid rural areas of dust, mud, and waterlogging, the 'Atal Pragati Path Yojana' is being effectively executed. Sanctions worth ₹1,686 crore have been issued to construct 765 Atal Pragati Paths in villages with populations exceeding 5,000. A total of 335 Atal Pragati Paths have already been completed, while the remaining works are strictly targeted for completion by January 31, 2027.

Speeding Up Non-Patchable and Missing Link Roads
For the financial year 2026-27, the state government has sanctioned ₹2,226 crore for 3,453 projects dedicated to the renewal of non-patchable roads and the construction of new missing links. Work orders for 2,836 of these projects have already been issued to renew and construct 6,815 km of roads. Additionally, to repair culverts damaged by rains, 424 construction works worth ₹58 crore will soon commence across 73 assembly constituencies in 21 districts.

Decongesting Traffic via ROBs, RUBs, and Elevated Roads
To make the transport network safer, structural developments at bridges and railway crossings are being fast-tracked. The state has successfully completed 13 Railway Overbridges (ROBs) and 17 Railway Underbridges (RUBs), while work on 39 ROBs and 12 RUBs is currently underway. Additionally, 13 high-level bridges have been completed and another 13 are under construction.

Major urban decongestion projects, including the elevated roads in Sanganer (Muhana Mode), Jaipur, and across crucial stretches in Bharatpur city (from Heeradas Circle to Kumher Gate, and Kali Bagichi to RBM Hospital via Bijli Ghar Circle), are progressing rapidly.

Widening and Strengthening National Highways
Significant progress has been made on National Highways, with 26 widening and strengthening projects spanning 610 km completed at an expenditure of ₹1,900 crore. Another 26 projects covering 303 km are currently underway with an investment of ₹3,220 crore. Furthermore, under the Annual Plan 2026-27, National Highway works spanning 623 km have been approved at an estimated cost of ₹12,461 crore, out of which financial sanctions for 4 major projects covering 190 km worth ₹3,920 crore have already been received.

Quality Monitoring through Modern Technology
The state government is ensuring strict quality control through high-tech monitoring systems. Real-time traffic monitoring and management are being handled using CCTV cameras, sensors, and an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS). Project transparency and quality are being maintained via the 'Sugam Path' online surveillance platform and the Project Monitoring Information System (PMIS). Additionally, FASTag facilities have been successfully implemented across 165 toll plazas in the state to ensure seamless, digital toll payments.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, these infrastructure innovations are steering Rajasthan toward an era of safe, secure, and modern connectivity, ensuring that the fruits of development reach the very last person in the state.
